I am a trained and qualified conservator and restorer of antique furniture, as well as a designer craftsman making fine furniture at my home workshops in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
I completed my training at Bruce Luckhurst’s Little Surrenden Workshops, in Bethersden, Kent. I have also trained in the restoration of modern furniture finishes with Konig UK. I work mainly for private clients, but have also carried out work for some prestigious companies. I am also a member of The Guild of Master Craftsmen.
Restoration - Restoration of furniture involves a broad range of skills including:
Cabinet making
Veneering
Furniture Repair
Oil Gilding
Metalwork
Leathering
Marquetry and inlay
Hand Finishes
French Polishing
I can also arrange for specialist work such as caning and rush seating as well as upholstery, carving and turning to be carried out.
Bespoke Furniture - I am a highly skilled cabinet maker creating bespoke pieces to your personal requirements, using traditional construction techniques and, where appropriate, modern techniques and methods. I draw on broad influences of furniture styles and value function, craftsmanship, and uncompromising quality. I work mainly in solid wood but consider myself adaptable to combine materials to suit a particular project. I am aware of the environmental issues related to the use of wood products and I am happy, at the clients request, to use products from a certified body such as FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes). As a French polisher, I have a good eye for colour and tone thus your new piece will compliment or blend with your existing furniture.
